7 PCS CONTINENTAL PORCELAIN, MOSTLY MANNER OF HELENA WO...Seven (7) Continental handpainted polychrome and parcel gilt porcelain items, mostly manner of Helena Wolfsohn. 1st-5th items: Five (5) Augustus Rex (Meissen) style items in the manner of Helena Wolfsohn, including one (1) covered sugar bowl with one (1) underplate having vignettes of pairs of cherubs engaged in various activities surrounded by purple diapered and hatch designs; two (2) quatrefoil saucers with floral spray to well and alternating panels of floral sprays, figural vignettes, or fish scale pattern; and one (1) shell form disk with central figural scene surrounded by floral vignettes upon a cobalt fish scale ground. All pieces with mark to the undersides. Ranging in size from 4 1/4" H x 5 1/8" D to 4 5/8" H x 7 1/2" D. 6th item: Meissen style libation cup by Helena Wolfshohn, leaf form with figural vignette to well, pink fish scale rim having floral vignettes, naturalistic handle, and floral sprays to underside. Marked with crossed swords with slash and S indicating this is a Meissen blank decorated by another studio. 1 5/8" H x 4 1/2" W x 3 3/4" D. 7th item: French Empire style Niderviller hard-paste porcelain vase with bead course to rim and base, molded flowers, and vignettes of figure with dog or lion to body. Unmarked. 5 3/8" H x 4 3/4" dia. All items late 19th century/early 20th century.

All items with minute wear to polychrome and gilt decoration. One quatrefoil dish with minor scattered surface scratches. Minor surface residue to vase.

FOUR CONTINENTAL PORCELAINS A mid-19th century Meissen sweetmeat dish centered with a quatrefoil landscape scene, the wide rose-pink and gilt border painted with delicate dock-side scenes, underglaze crossed sword mark to the underside. The second is a covered sugar bowl, circa 1860s, painted with the meticulous style of Helena Wolfsohn, known for her depiction of fancy birds and insects, underglaze mark not identified (broken finial). Also, two small teapots, one with a faux Meissen mark and the larger with a mark attributed to DKF Porcelain, Thuringia,1880s, (both with finial chips).

(27.3 cm.) Provenance: Karl Richard Klemm set up his own porcelain decorating studio in 1869. There were approximately 40 decorating studios in the Dresden area. Richard Klemm, along with Helena Wolfsohn, Karl Thiem, Ambrosius Lamm and Donath & Co., were among the most sought after porcelain decorating studios at this time. He used gold leaf to hide the marks of the origin of the blanks that he decorated.
